NICK PERFORMS RECITAL FOR SAN FRANCISCO PERFORMANCES 'SANCTUARY' SERIES

Nicholas Phan joins pianist-composer Jake Heggie for 'Time - Meditation for the Moment,' a themed recital spanning four and half centuries of music, with songs by Bernstein, Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Britten, Chausson, Dowland, Fauré, Finzi, Ives, Ned Rorem, Howard Swanson, Vaughan Williams and Heggie himself.

Phan explains: 'As the musical world has been forced to shut down due to this pandemic, and we musicians have suddenly found ourselves with untold amounts of time on our hands, I've been thinking a lot about time itself. Our program meditates on humanity's relationship with time: how it sometimes feels as though it is flying by, how sometimes it feels as though it is endless, and how finite it is. No matter how much time we feel we have, we only have so much.' 

Captured live at St. Stephen's Church, Belvedere, CA, on June 25, 2020, the film of his performance will be available for on-demand streaming, free of charge, in San Francisco Performances' new online four-part 'Sanctuary' Series.
