An excellent quartet of soloists enhanced the storytelling: soprano Lauren Snouffer (our silvery-voiced angel), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, tenor Nicholas Phan and baritone Søren Pedersen. (Pedersen stepped in to sing at the 11th hour for the announced bass Jonathan Lemalu…The four soloists offered both drama and reflection in their recitatives and arias…Phan, a lyric tenor, performed admirably and projected a smile as he drew out the words, ‘Comfort ye,’ which opened the oratorio. He dazzled in the quick and joyful ‘Ev’ry valley shall be exalted’…”
