ORCHESTra OF ST. LUKE’S

JUNE 22

Grammy-winning tenor Nicholas Phan curates a program celebrating music that restores the spirit, including Bach’s Ich armer Mensch, ich Sündenknecht and a work by Christoph Graupner.  Phan is the creator of BACH 52, a digital project centered on tenor arias and duets from Bach’s church cantatas and on the enduring resonance of this music for listeners today. One of Bach’s few cantatas for solo tenor, Ich armer Mensch, ich Sündenknecht is marked by its introspective character and notably demanding vocal writing. Long admired for his command of Baroque repertory from his celebrated tenure leading Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Nicholas McGegan is Phan’s perfect partner in this exploration of reflection and joy in musical communion.

Johann Sebastian BACH: Ich armer Mensch, ich Sündenknecht, BWV 55
